Taking Care of Your Canvas Products

Overview

At Harbor Canvas, we are proud to use only the highest quality and strongest Sunbrella fabrics. While these fabrics generally do a great job of staying clean, taking care of your canvas is incredibly important to ensure it lasts for years to come. As a general rule, our canvas tops should be lightly cleaned every month (a simple rinse of clean water will do) and a heavy cleaning every 2 to 3 years. We also offer cleaning products designed to tackle tough stains and mildew while also ensuring the safety of wildlife and the environment. If you are interested in these products, please inquire with us and we can recommend the right cleaner for the job.

General Or Light Cleaning

For a gentle cleaning of our canvas while the top is still on your boat, simply follow the steps listed below:

• Brush off loose dirt.
• Hose down.
• Prepare a cleaning solution of water
and mild soap such as Woolite or Dawn
dishwashing liquid.
• Use a soft bristle brush to clean.
• Allow cleaning solution to soak into the
fabric.
• Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is
removed.
• Air dry.
• May not require re-treatment depending on
the age of the fabric.

If stubborn stains persist, you can use a diluted
bleach/soap mixture for spot cleaning of
mildew. For roof run-off or other similar stains
a strong degreaser may be required

*Please remember to always be aware of the environment around you. If cleaning near bodies of water, please avoid using harmful chemicals such as bleach and instead use cleaning products that are environmentally friendly and not harmful to wildlife*

Heavy Cleaning (Stubborn Stains & Mildew)

Sunbrella does not promote mildew growth. Any mildew that appears on covers are simply growing on the dirt and foreign particles that are not removed from the fabric. In order to remove any stubborn stains and mildew:

• Prepare a solution of 1 cup bleach and 1/4
cup of mild soap per gallon of clean water.
• Soak affected area in solution for 15
minutes.
• Blot stain with a sponge or clean towel.
(Note: This step should be avoided when
cleaning the coated side (back side) of
Sunbrella SeaMark, Plus, Supreme,
or Clarity.)
• Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
• Air dry.

*Please remember to always be aware of the environment around you. If cleaning near bodies of water, please avoid using harmful chemicals such as bleach and instead use cleaning products that are environmentally friendly and not harmful to wildlife*
